the weekend

On Saturday, we went to the children's hospital to visit--handing out books, coloring books, and baby toys. It was such a joy to see the faces on the children light up when given something as simple as a coloring book or just a little attention. Most of the children there had families, though there were two abandoned children under the age of two with nothing wrong with them. They were at the hospital because there was no where else for them to go. Children under the age of two are not allowed to move into the orphanages. So if individuals do not take them in for foster care or adoption, the children are just left at the hospital. Joyce and Baron said that the other times that they have visited, there have been around ten abandoned babies each time.

On Sunday, we attended church with the Howertons. The services were in Romanian, so understanding was a bit of an issue for us. During the morning service Laurel and I thought that we were understanding something that was said in the message. It was so exciting. However, our excitement was dashed when we asked about the statement later only to discover that we had completely misunderstood. We won't be translating just yet.

Today, we are heading out to a children's home after lunch. We plan to stay there through Friday. We are uncertain if the internet will be available there. But if so, we will send more pictures along soon. If not, they will come on Friday.
