God may be using me even when it does not seem that way to me.
As I noted several posts ago, I was surprised by the outpouring of affection that Laurel and I received from those at the bilingual service. I always felt shackled by my ignorance of the Korean language when attempting to minister at the bilingual service. Our numbers were sometimes very small, but we attempted to minister to those who came. I really enjoyed the opportunity to open God's word on so many occasions, and I counted it a privilege to work with the people there. But I often questioned the real value of what I was doing.
Likewise, in school, I wondered the extent to which my three and a half years would leave a lasting effect for good in the lives of the students. I believe that Laurel had similar thoughts. But when we were recording goodbyes from our students, they expressed a thankfulness for our teaching that was unexpected but very encouraging. I also had occasion to talk to a parent of someone who was in the youth group before moving to California. He told me that his son spoke of me often. Again I was surprised.
The events of our last two weeks in Korea helped me to realize that even when I do not see or hear a recognizable response from someone, God may still be doing something wonderful in his or her life.
